A highly respected organisation based in Essex is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join their Environmental Department. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this is a critical role with responsibility for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all employees, contractors, and visitors across multiple UK sites.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety professional with a strong background in compliance, risk management, and training to take the lead in fostering a positive safety culture within a dynamic and evolving business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide Health & Safety policies and procedures aligned with current legislation and best practice.
- Lead regular site inspections, audits, and surveys across all locations to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Review and update risk assessments, SSOW, and method statements in collaboration with department leads.
- Conduct an annual BCarm audit to ensure training compliance and HR process accuracy.
- Deliver expert H&S advice and coordinate training requirements across the business.
- Lead investigations into incidents and accidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain fire safety standards across all sites, including equipment, evacuation plans, and training.
- Act as the primary liaison with external regulatory bodies including HSE and fire authorities.
- Drive emergency planning initiatives, including first aid provision and business continuity planning.
- Stay up to date with industry developments and proactively implement relevant legislative or procedural changes.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- NEBOSH Occupational Health & Safety qualification.
- Proven experience designing and delivering H&S training.
- Familiarity with occupational H&S systems and leading metrics.
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001, 18001 and 45001 standards.
- Strong communication, influencing, and IT skills.
- Full UK driving licence (travel to multiple depots required).
Desirable:
- Environmental qualifications or experience.
- Exposure to industrial environments and dangerous goods.
- Knowledge of DSEAR and PUWER regulations.
