Salary: £34,000 – £45,000pa plus car allowance

Location: Nottingham

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our client’s team, delivering control system software and integration projects across a range of client sites.

You will be responsible for the design, development, testing and commissioning of PLC, HMI and SCADA systems, working both in our Nottingham office/workshop and on customer sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret customer requirements and develop control system solutions.
  • Produce I/O schedules, system architecture and Functional Design Specifications.
  • Develop PLC, HMI and SCADA software across multiple platforms.
  • Create and maintain technical and test documentation.
  • Internally test and simulate software projects.
  • Test systems within workshop/MCC environments.
  • Attend customer sites for testing, commissioning and modifications.
  • Fault-find and resolve control system issues.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant engineering standards, legislation, QA procedures and customer requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with project and engineering teams to deliver projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

About You

  • HNC/HND in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Ideally 3–5 years’ experience in software development/control systems.
  • Strong PLC, HMI and SCADA programming experience.
  • Preferably experience with Rockwell (Allen Bradley), Mitsubishi and Schnieder
  • Experience across multiple automation platforms.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards, compliance and QA practices.
  • Water/utilities industry experience and knowledge of water authority specifications is highly desirable.
  • AWS, Azure or Kubernetes certifications are advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites.
  • Full UK driving licence advantageous.
  • ECS, Utilities SHEA (Water) and National Water Hygiene Cards advantageous/required depending on projects.

The Environment

The role involves a combination of office/workshop-based engineering and site work, including customer manufacturing, process and water industry facilities.
