Controls Engineer

Rise10 Recruitment are partnering with a leading industrial machinery and automation company who are recruiting for a Controls Engineer with strong electrical design capability and Siemens PLC experience to take ownership of machine control projects from concept through commissioning. This is not a PLC programming-only position. The successful candidate will be responsible for full control system development, including electrical design, software development, drives integration, and on-site commissioning. You will work on industrial machinery and continuous process equipment, delivering robust, well-documented, production-ready control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and modify PLC software (Siemens TIA Portal / S7 preferred)
  • Produce and maintain electrical schematics and control drawings (AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN preferred)
  • Generate and manage I/O lists, cable schedules, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams
  • Define control system architecture
  • Configure and tune industrial drives and motion systems
  • Carry out FAT and SAT, including site-based commissioning
  • Perform electrical fault-finding in live production environments
  • Ensure machine safety compliance and relevant standards adherence
  • Maintain structured project documentation (ISO 9001 awareness beneficial)

About You:

  • 3+ years’ experience in industrial machine controls
  • Proven experience in machine build, materials handling, or manufacturing automation
  • Strong hands-on experience with industrial drives and motion systems
  • Experience commissioning machinery in customer-facing environments
  • Confident owning controls projects from concept through to handover

Highly Desirable: 

  • Experience with web handling / tension control systems
  • Experience with continuous process or roll-forming machinery
  • Experience with multi-axis synchronisation
  • Experience with drive configuration and tuning
